This CD of the original NPR broadcast titled "VOICES: THOSE WHO WORE THE SHOE" was first broadcast in 2001, and continued to air on various National Public Radio stations around the country during Black History Month through 2010. This Peabody Award-nominated program is based on the 1934-1941 Federal Writers' Project interviews conducted with the few thousand former slaves still living in the U.S. at the time.

VOICES: THOSE WHO WORE THE SHOE promises to take the listener on a journey through a highly controversial period in American history. Seven professional actors help make the narratives come alive with an immediacy that will draw you in and keep you listening over and over again. This is oral history, through the words and music of those who experienced the pain, the sorrow...the reality of being physically owned by another human being.

Based on actor, writer, and director Harlin C. Kearsley's original stage play, "VOICES: THOSE WHO WORE THE SHOE," the 2001 radio broadcast was produced by National Public Radio and showcases the power of the human voice in expressing emotion and bringing stories to life.

VOICES: THOSE WHO WORE THE SHOE is an invaluable learning tool for middle school, high school, college students, church groups, and anyone interested in American history. Each CD comes with cast info and archival photographs.

As a collector's item, this CD is a must-have for fans of drama and spoken word genres. Don't miss out on the chance to add this unique piece to your collection, while supplies last.
